Otter



Otters are dark brown saltwater mammals. There are 13 different species of otters live throughout the world.

In the united state, otters live along Pacific Coast from Alaska to California.

The primary predator for sea otters are the great white sharks in California. Killer whales are primary predator for sea otters in Alaska .

Otters have grayish face,flipper-like webbed hind feet, and short thick tail.

River otters grow to 3 to 4 ft in length and weigh from 10lb to 30 lb. They spend much of their time on land to keep their fur dry and warm.

Sea Otters like to live in shallow ocean waters with fish and seaweed. Sea Otters spend most of their time in the water.

Otters eat fish and shellfish, insects, worms, frogs, crayfish and crabs, birds and small mammals.

Sea Otter can remain underwater for 4 to 5 minutes. Sea Otter can float on its back, use a small rock to crack shellfish.

River otters are hunted and trapped for fur in North America. People make Otter fur coat.

Otters give birth on land or in water.Sea otters generally give birth to one pup a year. Otter babies are called pups. Baby otters weigh 3-5 lbs when they were born.
